Rhyl is well-connected for a North Wales resort, with direct rail services from London, Manchester, and Cardiff, good road access from the north-west of England, and a coastal location that makes it one of the most accessible seaside towns in Wales.
By Train
Rhyl station sits on the North Wales Coast Line, one of the most scenic railway journeys in Britain. Avanti West Coast runs direct services between London Euston and Holyhead, stopping at Rhyl — the journey from Euston takes approximately 3 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes. Transport for Wales operates services linking Rhyl to Cardiff Central (approximately 3 hours 50 minutes), Crewe, Manchester Piccadilly, and stations along the North Wales coast.
From Manchester, the journey to Rhyl is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. From Liverpool, change at Chester or Llandudno Junction. From Chester, direct trains take around 50 minutes. The station is about a ten-minute walk from the beach.
By Car
The A55 North Wales Expressway is the main road artery along the coast. From Chester, follow the A55 west; the Rhyl junction (with the A548) is approximately 35 miles from Chester, or 40 minutes in normal traffic. From the south, the A525 links Rhyl to St Asaph, Denbigh, and Ruthin.
There is plentiful paid parking along the seafront (East and West Parade) and in town centre car parks. Seafront parking is pay-and-display and fills quickly in summer; arrive early or park slightly further back from the promenade and walk.
By Bus
Arriva Buses Wales operates services along the North Wales coast road between Chester and Holyhead, stopping in Rhyl — useful for connections from Prestatyn, Colwyn Bay, and Llandudno. The X51 (and similar services) connects Rhyl to Denbigh, Ruthin, and Wrexham via the A525 corridor.
By Air
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is approximately 52 kilometres (32 miles) east of Rhyl, and is the nearest airport with a reasonable range of destinations. There is no direct public transport link; hire a car from the airport or take the train (Liverpool to Rhyl via Chester, approximately 1 hour 40 minutes). Manchester Airport is approximately 85 kilometres east and is better connected for long-haul flights.
Cycling
Rhyl is on National Cycle Network Route 5, which follows the North Wales coast. The flat terrain between Prestatyn and Rhyl (approximately 5 miles) makes a straightforward seaside ride. Bike hire is available in the town seasonally.
