Events

Rhyl's events calendar is anchored by the annual Airshow — one of the biggest free air displays in Wales — and supplemented by a year-round programme at the Pavilion Theatre and seasonal events around the Marine Lake. If you time your visit to coincide with one of these, you'll see the town at its most alive.

Rhyl Airshow

The Rhyl Airshow is the town's signature event, typically held over a weekend in June or July. Displays take place along the seafront from aircraft ranging from historic warbirds and display teams to modern military jets, with the Red Arrows making regular appearances when their schedule allows. The show is free to watch from the beach and promenade, which means hundreds of thousands of people descend on Rhyl for the weekend. Accommodation books out months in advance; if the Airshow is your reason for visiting, plan ahead. The show took a break in 2024 but has historically been one of the most-attended events in North Wales.

Rhyl Miniature Railway Events

The Rhyl Steam Preservation Trust runs a programme of special events throughout the operating season: steam galas that draw enthusiasts from across the UK, themed days, and the extremely popular Santa Specials in December. The steam galas in particular are much better attended than you might expect for a 15-inch gauge railway in a small seaside town.

Marine Lake

The Marine Lake is used for watersports events and family activity weekends, particularly over bank holidays. Check locally for what is scheduled during your visit.

Pavilion Theatre

The Pavilion runs a genuinely varied year-round programme: touring musicals, comedy, tribute acts, family shows, and an annual pantomime that remains a highlight of the North Wales entertainment calendar. The programme is updated on the Pavilion's website and it is worth checking before you arrive — there is usually something worth seeing.

Christmas

The town's Christmas lights and illuminations are a seasonal tradition. The Sky Tower light display is particularly effective in the dark winter months.
